3 months, 3 weeks agoJapanese equities have sold off over the last 36 hours as you can see in the first chart below. The Nikkei 225 has fallen by -2.80% over recent days, pushed lower by a change in sentiment – a move to risk-off.
Which means a stronger Yen, and that in turn adds pressure to Japanese stock prices.
The second chart below provides some…[Read more]

3 months, 3 weeks agoIts macro over micro at the moment as far as drivers of sentiment are concerned and that has shown in itself in the thoughts of strategists at Citigroup who have downgraded Europe today on the back of additional tariffs imposed by the US as a punishment for supporting Denmark over Greenland.

3 months, 3 weeks agoWe recently looked at where Lloyd’s Banking stock might be in 5 years time.
You may recall that I said I preferred a bank with non-UK exposures, such as Barclays BARC LN .
JP Morgan writes on the sector today.
They nominate Barclays as their top pick, with an overweight rating, and a positive catalyst watch on the stock.
JPM are…[Read more] -

3 months, 3 weeks agoMarkets could be in for a a reset this week as the macro appears to overwhelming the micro.
Donald Trump’s increasingly aggressive stance on Greenland could see the introduction of additional trade tariffs against EU states. Whilst its also possible that the US might take military action against the ruling regime in Iran.

3 months, 3 weeks agoThe third Monday in January (today 19/01/26) is also known as “Blue Monday” as it has the reputation of being the most depressing day of the year.
That’s thanks to a combination of holiday excess, in terms of both expenditure and consumption,
And with people often having been paid early in December, by mid January, bank accounts are…[Read more] -

3 months, 4 weeks agoIt’s no secret that stock markets are cyclical, swinging from bullish to bearish and back again as investor sentiment oscillates between greed and fear .
This happens at a micro level intraday, and at the macro level overtime scales of years ,or even decades .
What isn’t always appreciated is that markets are also prone to fashions. And…[Read more]

4 months agoWe are two weeks into January and this 2026, though to be honest so much has happened in that time it feels as though a lot more time has elapsed.
However it really only has been a fortnight.
That’s enough time for some trends to develop and perhaps provide pointers about what is to come in the balance of 2026.
The scatter chart below plots…[Read more]

Darren Sinden replied to the topic Why has the eToro share price done so bady? in the forum US Stocks
4 months agoI think there are a number of reasons for the underperformance of eToro’s stock since it IPO’d.
However, it seems to me that the main factors behind the share price fall are geographic and cultural differences.I say that because, unlike rivals such as Robinhood eToro’s clients base is international rather than US focused. Ss of the end of…[Read more]

Darren Sinden replied to the topic Can any other index beat the US stock markets in 2026? in the forum Indices
4 months agoUS markets didn’t perform particularly well in 2025 for example, over the last 12 months the S&P 500 was up by +16.92%. However, the Spanish Ibex 35 posted gains of almost +50.0% in that 12 month period and several smaller European indices did even better. Slovenia’s SBITOP Index is up 5+4.0% over the last year, but even that is knocked into a…[Read more]

Richard Berry replied to the topic Has Silver finally found its voice? in the forum Commodities
4 months agoThe Gold Versus Silver ratio is at its lowest in 10 years, based on the fact that Silver is largely correlated to gold – albeit much more volatile. Is there an argument for buying into this as a pairs trade?

4 months ago43% of investors surveyed by CMC Markets expect the US to be the strongest-performing market in 2026, comfortably ahead of the Far East ex-Japan (26%) and Japan (11%). Europe has just 10% backing continental markets to outperform.
